Coimbra is an old university town, imbued through and through with a unique student atmosphere. This is a fascinating underground trail running at a depth of 50 m in the middle of the Serra da Estrela mountain range. There is a kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, cream in the room. We enjoyed it. Tea was added daily. Linen and towels were changed twice a week.

The hotel is located in a quiet area, there is no noisy crowd. There are several direct tram routes to the center (both to the railway station and to shopping centers, and to the main attractions).

The ride is less than half an hour. 2 stops near the hotel: one right under the windows, the other a 5-minute walk.

However, you will see not only the university, but also Cathedral cities. It was built in Romanesque style. The pride of Coimbra was also the monastery of the Augustinian order. It is even older than the university, which in itself makes this complex unique. The king of Portugal is also buried here.

Lunch is also waiting for us in the city, after which you will go to explore the Piggy bank cave. Associated with her interesting story: Legend has it that the robbers found a rich man who was killed, but in the process of dividing the spoils they dropped a bag of coins. Those scattered, but no one could find them in the cave. As a result, the coins remained forever in the rocks. They say that money is still sometimes found there.

Due to the fact that the local rocks are rich in mineral deposits, they are strikingly colorful. Competently made backlighting helped people see all the splendor of nature and the incredible brightness of different shades. To make it convenient to explore the cave, steps were specially cut. But in general, the state monitors and protects natural wealth, so that basically nothing is touched here.

The cave itself is an interesting combination of different rooms. Tourists even gave them names for the associations that evoke certain corners. For example, there is an Imperfect Chapel, Red Dome, Waterfall, Fountain of Tears ...

The cave is 350 meters long and 50 meters deep. Stable air temperature throughout the year is kept at 18 degrees Celsius thanks to the water that oozes from the rocks. It is warm and warms the surrounding space. As a result, it will not be too hot inside in winter, but in summer it is pleasantly cool. Sources for humans are safe, from them you can easily wash yourself.

The cave is quite interesting for explorers as well. For example, scientists still find footprints of dinosaurs here. By the way, entering and exiting a cave is not the same thing. So explore underground natural wealth best with a guide so you don't get lost.
